You have a slow cooker. You also have a memory of the one time a recipe said "cook until done" and you ended up ordering pizza. That is not your fault. A recipe that gives you a time and no signal is asking you to guess.

This book gives you both. Every recipe has exact amounts in grams and cups, a time range that tells you when to start checking, and a signal that tells you when to stop. The pork is ready when it hits 203 F and a fork twists freely. That takes 9 to 10 hours. The time is the warning, the signal is the answer.

How it works

  1. Download and open. You get a PDF ebook, one HTML dashboard file and the printables. No install, no account, no subscription.
  2. Answer five taps. The dashboard asks who you are cooking for, your slow cooker size, your soup mood, whether you are hosting Thanksgiving and anything you do not eat. It scales portions and filters recipes from there.
  3. Cook. Pick a recipe, hit start cooking and follow it in big type, with timers on the steps that need them. Mark it cooked and it remembers.

The Thanksgiving timeline is the other half of the idea. Instead of one frantic Wednesday, you get a dated countdown from two weeks out. The dashboard works out the fourth Thursday of November by itself, so it stays right next year too.

What this is not

It is not a slow cooker book only. Not every recipe uses the pot. The baking chapter is loaves, cookies and muffins, and there are desserts and drinks too.

It is not an app from a store. It is a file on your own computer or phone.

It is not a Thanksgiving-only product. The recipes are built for cold weather, so they run from the first frost to March.

And it is not padded. There is no long introduction about the history of soup. There are 44 recipes, a dashboard, a countdown, a chart and two printables.

Questions

Do I need a specific slow cooker?

No. Every recipe lists the pot size it was tested in, with a note on what changes if yours is bigger or smaller. Most of the book is written for a 6 quart.

Is the dashboard an app? Do I need to install anything?

No. It is one HTML file. Open it in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on a computer or a phone and it works with the wifi off. Nothing is uploaded, and your notes and ratings stay on your own device.

Are the nutrition numbers real?

They come from the USDA FoodData Central database, matched ingredient by ingredient and divided by the servings. Where the database does not carry an item as sold, the closest public entry stands in and the book says which ones.

Can I print it?

Yes. The ebook is a standard PDF, and the three printables come in US Letter and A4.

What if I do not eat pork, beef, dairy or nuts?

The dashboard asks during setup and filters the recipe box for you. The ebook also has a swap table for the twelve substitutions that come up most.
