Pick an ingredient, type an amount and read the weight. A cup of flour and a cup of honey do not weigh the same, so each ingredient has its own number.

Fractions work: 1 1/2, 3/4 or 0.75.

Source: USDA FoodData Central, SR Legacy. Weights vary with how the cup is filled. Cups and spoons are US measures. Where USDA lists no spoon weight, it is worked out from the cup (1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons). Salt, baking powder and cinnamon have no cup weight in the USDA data, so their cup is the teaspoon weight times 48.

Questions, answered.

Why is weighing more accurate than measuring by cup?

A cup measures volume, and how much fits in it depends on how you fill it. Flour scooped straight from the bag packs down and weighs more than flour spooned into the cup and leveled. A scale gives the same number every time, for any ingredient.

How much does a cup of all-purpose flour weigh?

This converter uses 125 g per cup, the USDA figure for all-purpose flour. Some flour brands and baking charts use 120 g because they fill the cup more lightly. When a recipe gives grams, follow the recipe.

Is a cup of sugar the same weight as a cup of flour?

No. A cup is a volume, so denser ingredients weigh more. In this chart a cup of granulated sugar is 200 g, a cup of all-purpose flour is 125 g and a cup of honey is 339 g.

Are ounces the same as fluid ounces?

No. The ounces on this page are weight: 1 oz is 28.35 g. Fluid ounces measure volume, 8 to a US cup, and only match weight ounces for ingredients about as dense as water.
